Insurance
Insurance is one way to be sure that if something happens you will be reimbursed. Most people purchase insurance for vehicles, their home and their health. Some even purchase insurance for their own lives (to provide for those left behind).
While insurance can be a great benefit, it is also a gamble. The insurance company is betting that nothing will happen to you or your property and you are betting that something will. Like in any gambling situation the house always wins. In this case the house is the insurance company. Most insurance policies will never have a claim filed on them.
Sometimes the gamble backfires for the insurance companies. When large natural disasters strike (like hurricanes), insurance companies have to struggle to pay off policies. This is one reason that some companies choose not to insure in states where these types of disasters often occur.
Getting insurance rarely backfires on the policy holder. Even if there is never a claimed filed then the premiums are still such a minimum amount that having the security of the policy is often worth it.
When getting an insurance policy of any kind it is important to read the terms thoroughly. That way you will understand what is covered and what is not and it will help you stand up for your rights if a claim does need to be filed.
